Good Divorce – Is there such a thing?

A good divorce might sound like a contradiction, but the way in which a couple resolve their differences upon separation can make a significant difference to their experience.

The Family Court system is currently in crisis with backlogs for hearings and administrative tasks. The system was already overstretched prior to the pandemic, but the impact of Covid19 has worsened the situation leaving families who find themselves within the Court process having to cope with those delays which adds to their already stressful situation.

The annual “Good Divorce Week” (28th November to 2nd December 2022”) promoted by Resolution, aims to highlight the crisis within the Family Court to the Government and to raise the awareness of the alternative ways that families can choose to resolve their issues outside of the Court process where it is feasible and safe to do so. Avoiding the delays of the Court process is reason enough alone, however, there are other advantages for couples who are able to resolve their financial issues and agree arrangements for their children.

Opting for a Collaborative Divorce or mediation means that everyone is committed to trying to find solutions by agreement to suit your family, without the costs, delay, stress and acrimony that can be associated with Court proceedings.

Our family solicitors are members of Resolution and are committed to helping you resolve your family law issues, constructively and amicably. Every family and relationship is different, but with professional advice and guidance, we can help you to consider your options and decide upon which process or combination of processes would be most suitable for you.
