Had an appointment with Judith today. Her advice was very clear as she highlighted possible scenarios of the issue discussed and made the whole tangled topic much easier to grasp. Thank you. Will definitely use TFS services again.

I've had a couple of previous solicitors to deal with my case but unfortunately it didn't workout. The gods must be shining on me because I had the good fortune to meet Nicola Starbuck at Thomas Flavell & Sons. Nicola has been simply incredible with my case. She has kept me informed every step of the way and given me the best advice to get my outcome. I didn't once have to contact Nicola for an update. She handled it all with great efficiency. She a credit to this practice. If you are in need of a great solicitor, now you know. Don't mess about......

Navigating financial settlement. Louise and Carol were both an absolute pleasure to deal with. So knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They both made a rather overwhelming and unknown situation manageable. Can’t thank them enough.

Frequently Asked Questions

We aim to make family law as simple and stress-free as possible. Alongside our personal guidance, our FAQ section answers common questions on divorce, child arrangements, and financial settlements to help you make informed decisions

Our work depends upon your circumstances and what you hope to achieve. Everyone's family situation is different and this means that, whilst the background legal framework is the same, how we approach helping you navigate your particular circumstances needs to be tailored to you.

Where there is a dispute, we start from the basis that it is preferable to resolve matters amicably and without the intervention of the court. In some situations, however, it may be necessary for an application to the court to be made, and sometimes urgently. We can advise you about your options.

Our role includes:

  • Meeting with you either in person or remotely and advising you upon the law relating to your circumstances, then presenting you with options and possible outcomes.
  • Managing your case by liaising with you and other parties, for example your ex-partner or other professionals such as their solicitor on your behalf.
  • Engaging with third-party professionals such as independent financial advisors, pension experts, counsellors, accountants, surveyors, medical professionals where their involvement is required and you have given your agreement.
  • Represent you at certain hearings before the court or instruct a barrister for advice and/ or representation at hearings where appropriate.
  • Draft legal documents on your behalf and prepare and send correspondence to you and third parties.
  • Endeavour to support you in achieving the best possible legal outcome.

At Thomas Flavell & Sons, your first meeting with one of our family solicitors is a fixed-fee session costing £200+VAT. This is a reduced hourly rate and allows us to dedicate a full hour to your situation. Beforehand, you’ll complete a tailored questionnaire so your solicitor comes to the meeting fully prepared. This makes the session as productive as possible, giving you clear, practical advice from the very start. While some firms may offer a free 30-minute chat, these are usually too brief to be truly helpful and don’t allow for preparation in advance.

  • You will have been sent a link to our online questionnaire. Completing this before the meeting will help you focus on the basic information we need for that meeting and will give us a good sense of your circumstances even before we meet with you. It ensures that the initial consultation is as productive as possible.
  • Bring with you any correspondence or documents that you have received from the court, local authority or other solicitors you have may have communicated with about the matter.
  • If you have kept a diary of relevant events/ incidents or have access to communications on your phone, and you think they will be important during the meeting, ensure that they can be easily accessed.
  • You can bring a friend or a relative with you to the meeting to support you if you wish.
  • Consider what you would like to achieve at the meeting, so that we can ensure that it is a productive as possible. You can bring any written questions that you have and make notes during the meeting if you'd like to.
  • If you have children, ensure that you have arranged childcare so that you can attend the meeting without them. This means you can concentrate without distraction, they are not privy to the conversation or if you became emotional.
  • Be prepared to be open and honest about your situation with us so we can properly advice you and agree next steps.
  • Whilst we try to offer as much advice as possible during the first consultation, it is commonly necessary for further information to be gathered before advice can be offered. The first meeting usually involves us being able to advise you about the legal framework, your options at that point, the further information that is required to progress matters and potential referrals to other professionals who may be able to help you. If you wish to instruct us further, then we can formulate a plan of action for next steps and provide costs advice.

Of course! We’re happy to meet with you online if that’s more convenient. Our family solicitors in Hinckley and Leamington Spa can arrange appointments via Teams or Zoom, so you can speak to us from the comfort of your own home. Whether you choose to meet in person or online, you’ll receive the same clear, supportive advice tailored to your situation.
