Maisie Lacrouts Reviews her Work Experience at TFS

by Maisie Lacrouts 16th September 2024

I've just wrapped up an amazing two weeks of work experience at Thomas Flavell & Sons! I spent one week with the Private Client Team and another with the Conveyancing Team, learning about two very different but equally fascinating areas of law. Both of which I have found exceptionally helpful for gaining more knowledge on multiple areas of law and seeing both legal processes.

Everyone in the office is so professional and both teams are truly amazing at handling their intense workload, as they are insanely busy.

My first week with the Private Client team gave me the opportunity to sit in on fee-earner meetings and listen to clients first hand. Having been very closed minded to this area of law, I was pleasantly surprised with how interesting it was! I was able to draft attendance notes and emails, draft Lasting Power of Attorney’s, make phone calls to businesses, apply for a Grant of Probate and submit Anti-Money Laundering Checks. All these tasks have widened my knowledge by seeing how the processes work and how it all comes together. Vijay Singh, Selena Dodd, Lena Ormerod and Zara Taylor were always so keen to help and there was not one dull moment.

My second week with the Conveyancing team gave me the opportunity to see the different processes of Residential and Commercial properties. I was able to talk with clients, open and close files and draft emails and documentations. This gave me insight into the processes when buying or selling a property, which is useful for both my career and my personal life! Matthew Thom and Chris Stratford always managed to give me interesting work no matter how busy they were and are insanely hardworking.

Everyone in the office was so lovely and welcoming! There was not one question unanswered, and I never felt afraid to ask anything, which made me feel extremely comfortable. This experience has made me feel more confident in my chosen career path and gave me a huge insight into how the law works in practice.
