Over the past week, I have had the incredible opportunity to complete work experience at Thomas Flavell & Sons Solicitors at their Hinckley office in the private client team, and what a journey it has been. From the moment I stepped in, I was welcomed with genuine warmth and kindness by an exceptional team who not only guided but also inspired me in more ways that I can describe.
On my very first Monday morning, Zara gave me a lovely induction that set the tone for everyone and everything that followed. She explained things calmly, clearly and with patience, making sure I understood not just what I was doing, but why it mattered. Her support throughout the placement helped me grow in both confidence and clarity. I am truly grateful for the time and effort she took to teach me at every stage.
Every day was different, and that's what made it so exciting. I was privileged to attend a will signing and will changing meeting and got to know why they come to Thomas Flavell solicitors without a doubt. I also got the opportunity to assist with will drafting and power of attorney. Getting involved in real life legal work taught me the importance of legal steps, how sensitive and personal this area of law can be.
One of the standout things was learning about deputyship and understanding why power of attorney is so crucial, and what happens when every trustee in a will passes away, these scenarios brought up complex yet fascinating legal implications. I even had the chance to read through interesting cases.
What made this journey so special wasn’t just the legal knowledge I gained but it was the team. I have to say a heartfelt thank you to Kate, Joanne, Kay, Annette, Catherine, and of course Zara Taylor who made this experience memorable. I may not have mentioned everyone but each person I was in contact with contributed to making me feel part of something meaningful, I hope we may meet again in the future.
This experience didn’t just teach me legal skills; it taught be about myself. It made me realise what I truly enjoy and what I might be made for. So, I am walking away not only with new knowledge but with a deeper sense of purpose.
Thank you, Thomas Flavell and Sons, for this opportunity of experience and for shaping what I hope will be the start of a fulfilling legal career.
